The Serbian group was invited to the United States as guests of the U.S. State Department’s International Visitors Leadership Program, and was interested in understanding more about the intellectual property litigation process in the United States. The Serbian delegation included: Dijana Jankovic/Criminal Judge on the High Court in Nis; Vladimir Jankovic/ Owner and Principal Attorney, Jankovic & Partners Law Office; Borica Mitic/Deputy Senior Public Prosecutor in Nis; Ljuban Petrovic/Senior Inspector, Service for Combating Organized Crime, Ministry of Interior; and two interpreters. The group met for about an hour with Swain Wood and discussed many facets of intellectual property, including the central role of juries in the civil legal system in the United States, and the extent to which intellectual property rights in the United States are enforced by private parties, rather than state or national government.
